How to Apply Powder Paint

Using powder paint is a convenient way to produce beautiful results on a wide variety of surfaces. It offers excellent corrosion protection and durable finishes. It is also safe, easy to clean and cost-effective.

Powder paint is typically used for smaller metal components, such as chassis, wheels, motorcycle frames and roll cages. It is an epoxy paint in powder form. It is easy to apply with a simple gun.

The process involves spraying powder onto the surface to create a thick and tough finish. The material used in the coating is a mixture of finely ground resin particles, pigment for color and other additives for specific functions.

To prepare the surface, the grease and grime must be removed. If the surface is oily, acetone is used to remove the traces. Alternatively, you can sand the surface with a wire wheel or bench grinder.

Once the parts are thoroughly prepared, the coating is applied with an electrostatic gun. This application method uses positive and negative charges to stick the powder to the part.

Once the coating has been applied, it is cured in an oven. The curing process changes the color of the powder. The bake times vary between different formulas. Depending on the thickness of the object being coated, the oven temperature is usually between 80 and 150 degC.

The process requires minimal operator training. It is recommended to use respiratory equipment to reduce the exposure to fumes.
